Angel of the morning

Dear Diary,

I have just borrowed a book from the library, it is Time Out’s 1000 songs to change your life.  I am going to blog some of my favourite songs that jump out at me, maybe one each day, from A-Z and today I am starting with the letter ‘A’.  This first one is an all-time big favourite song of mine from way back, it is Angel Of The Morning, sung here by Juice Newton, I hope you enjoy the video. There were several good versions of the song by different artists on YouTube but after much deliberation I eventually picked this one.

I have been feeling a need for flowers lately, haven’t we all?  This video has some beautiful close-ups of all different kinds which  I hope will make for you a visual as well as an audible delight.  The song may be a tribute to a one-night stand but I think it is such a beautiful piece of music.

Angel of the Morning

There'll be no strings to bind your hands
Not if my love can't bind your heart
And there's no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start
I see no need to take me home
I'm old enough to face the dawn

Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Then slowly turn away from me

Maybe the sun's light will be dim
It won't matter anyhow
If morning's echo says we've sinned
Well, it was what I wanted now
And if we're victims of the night I
won't be blinded by the light

Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Then slowly turn away from me

I won't beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the day
Of the years, baby

Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, angel

Then slowly turn away from me

Bet you can’t wait to see what the letter B will bring.  Any suggestions?

Bye for now,
Cait.

I feel thes most need of flowers when I am jaded and exhausted from work and relentless routine - beautiful deep red roses in particular. In my state of South Australia we don't have those blankets of white snow where one longs for colour and Spring, but can understand how it must be so. I am looking forward to what you come up with for B. Like Pamela,I have always been touched by the Beatles' Blackbird - its simplicity, brevity and beauty. There must be so much from which to choose!

Juice Newton. Now that takes a person back a bit. Good song.
Yes, I'm ready for flowers now. But they're coming, they're coming...

Oh Cait,
This will be such a great journey with you. There is something about songs and music that has the ability to carry us back to our past and our younger selves. 'Angel of the Morning' is part of mine. Even then I didn't understand the sin in love.

I dunno Cait. I would have gone for All You Need Is Love!

And I did so love your poem on the prior post, that I left another comment there. Must be tonight's full moon. xo

What a good idea this is Cait. I have been planning to do a regular song post on my blog for ages now, but hey, guess what, it hasn't happened yet!!

The first thing that sprung to mind was 'Beautiful Day' by U2. There are probably many other better candidates that I could think of, but this one just popped into my head. I checked out the lyrics again. Not bad. Slightly muddled, but a good message - and a belter of a tune! And let's face it, U2 are pretty iconic.

I liked that, though I'm generally pretty useless at music. Apart from my banjo of course...

So you could have banjo music for B?
