The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

This is 'F' in my Alphabet of Songs.

Roberta Flack owns this song as far as I am concerned, there is no contest.

Just listen.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command.

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
It would last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face, your face,
your face, your face

I love this song and I love Roberta Flack. I have this song on a proper, old-fashioned record and perhaps it is time I got it on cd.

Thank you for reminding me.

Great choice, Cait!

Roberta Flack is such a fine artist. Do you know ... she lives in my neighborhood, and I have yet to see her face. One of these days.

And where will G lead us? xo

Loved this video. I was entranced. I don't listen to enough music and this was a treat to see. Thanks.

I love both your F and your E cait - it's that smokey sound of soul that gets me. These are songs for smooches; moving around a dance floor v-e-r-y slowly with a partner you want to know better.

I have always loved this song. Yes, Roberta Flack is magnificent, but the words...they communicate beautifully the consummation of love.
