With February Came the Snow

If Candlemas Day be fair and bright,

Winter will have another flight;
But if it be dark with clouds and rain,
Winter is gone, and will not come again.

The snow has arrived at last. So far it has been light snow but persistent; the wind blows in gusts with quite an intensity and still has an icy coldness in its bite.

I love it. So do the dogs, we are like a group of kids as we set off for our walk. Well they run, snuffling and licking the snow as they go and I walk. I pop my camera in my pocket, just in case.

The oak wood

By the lane in the distance

Dust of Snow

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.
Robert Frost

Those Robert Frost words are just so good for me today. Just got to wait for the crow to pass now!

What evocative photos Cait - it seems as if the weather with you is much as it is here. Not that much snow but the absence of traffic and noise is a bonus. Poems lovely. Thankyou.

It's Ground Hog's Day here. Not as romantic sounding as Candlemas Day. Puxatony Phil saw his shadow, so there will be six more weeks of winter, which I do so enjoy.

A little touch of magic here on your blog today Cait - bare tree branches, hemlock, crows - I think a soft dusting of snow is magical - it reminds me so much of icing sugar - no wonder this culinary accessory is so necessary for Christmas cooking decorations...and yes just the sound of Candlemas Day sounds romantic.

Great Photos Cait. We had proper snow in Dublin to day for the first time since 1982. I was so excited. Drove up into the hills and took some photos. Off to Australia and searing heat tomorrow. Will post my interview blog when i get there. Can't keep up with your quirky answer blogs, but would love to do them. Your new computer chair must be very comfortable!

When I was a child we used to get our throats blessed on 3 Feb - the feast of St.Blaise, with the candles blessed on Candlemas Day.The priest crossed 2 candles and pressed them up to your neck. The first time I was so scared, I thought he was going to choke me. Funny the thoughts of yore that come to mind.

Hi Cait,

Love your photos...I am feeling miffed, as Tiggy has snow down the road...but there's none here (yet)!

Super photos.
I bet your dogs loved it.
For some reason snow just delights me!
Was glued to the TV looking at pictures of London under snow yesterday.
So gorgeous looking.
When I was a teacher (of high school age) I used to let everyone get up and rush to the window when the first snow came. Much the MOST important thing to do.

What wonderful scenes and I definitely felt spoiled reading your post to have the poetry to go along with it. Hope you have plenty of supplies in. hugs Margie.

I grew up with Robert Frost's poetry and love it. "Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening" is a great favorite and one my siblings and I used to recite at the dinner table. Love your blog.

Dear Cait,

Really lovely wintery pictures, I love the second one down.... in the distance. They could be sold in a gallery.!

Thank you for that wonderful Poem Cait. We seemed to have had a really cold winter so far, but I do look forward to the Spring, everything bursting open with new life.
