She Moved Through The Fair

For Camilla whose birthday was yesterday and for my lovely special daughter whose birthday is tomorrow.

She Moved Through The Fair

My young love said to me,
My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you
For your lack of kind"
And she stepped away from me
And this she did say:
It will not be long, love,
Till our wedding day"

As she stepped away from me
And she moved through the fair
And fondly I watched her
Move here and move there
And then she turned homeward
With one star awake
Like the swan in the evening
Moves over the lake

The people were saying,
No two e'er were wed
But one had a sorrow
That never was said
And I smiled as she passed
With her goods and her gear,
And that was the last
That I saw of my dear.

Last night she came to me,
My dead love came in
So softly she came
That her feet made no din
As she laid her hand on me
And this she did say
It will not be long, love,
'Til our wedding day

Birthday congrats to both. I lvoe that song but it's the first, the Fergal Sharkey (sp?) version that does it for me.

Happy birthday to both. And that's a lovely picture too, is it Irish? Or is it yours? Love the music. Su haunting and sad - like the poem that has a Burns-like flavour to it.

Dear Cait,

Thank you so much for the very beautiful song, it is one of my favourites, and always brings a tear to my eye. Thank you too for birthday wishes, you are such a sweet kind person Cait.

My humble apologies for not remembering your Daughter's birthday. I wish your Daughter a very HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY.

Love Camilla.xx

I adore this song, especially by Van Morrison. I have been blog hopping and must have found yours for a reason, and that reason as far as I can see is of our mutual passion for Ireland. My father ( God bless him) was Irish, my maiden name was Magee and my family are from Co Down. It's my spiritual home too and we go as often as possible sometimes 3 visits a year. We Love Dublin and have made good friends there. Oh I could go on & on about my love of Irish authors, poets, songs, music. It's sad about your Mother, but you have inherited the spirit of Ireland in your soul from her.
Best Wishes
Maureen
