My year is made because today M has seen the kingfisher on our river bridge. It was before seven in the morning and this poor photo was very hastily snapped through a (dirty) window through rain, wind, mist and low light (well it is summer!).
Last year I did not see it at all which worried me and most summers I am lucky to see only a few flashes of the brilliant blue as it flies up or downstream. Only very occasionally have we seen it unmoving for any peiod of time.
Needless to say I shall be up early from now on, camera at the ready. Watch this space won't you? And please keep everything crossed.
Bye for now,
Caitx

I know exactly how you feel as I waited with anticipation at my first indigo bunting sighting this spring and was worried he would not return, but he did and brought a buddy with him. Two males at the feeder for over a week. It was thrilling! Kingfishers are gorgeous birds, but I've never seen one in "real life" yet. Lucky you!
How wonderful.
I've never seen one.
My birdfeeder was full of blue birds the other morning and I was beside myself. They flew around me as I wandered around the garden and I felt like Snow White!
Doesn't matter how, or through what, the photo was taken, it matters that you saw him/her. Magnificent little bird. Thanks for sharing!
Kingfishers are a very special bird for me; I used to see them a lot when we lived near the Soar but not for years now.
Thank you for sharing the pic; lifted my spirits.
