Musical Interlude

Music was my refuge.  I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.
Maya Angelou

Without music life would be a mistake.
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

Just two songs for today.  The first is Baker Street which is a tribute to Gerry Rafferty who sadly died today aged 63.

The song Baker Street always reminds me of January 1978, the time my first baby, my daughter was born, I remember it was playing when I began having labour pains at home. It is funny how music can 'take you back'.

God rest your soul Gerry, you are going home now

Don't you just love that saxophone?

The second song is one I heard on the radio this morning. Another old song that I love by Billy Joel.  I love the music and the lyrics so wanted to include both here.

Hello Cait,

Two great songs there, thank you for posting for us. Sad indeed about Gerry Rafferty, I have always loved Baker Street song one of my all time favourites, and of course the street is only a stone's throw away from when I lived in London.

Beautiful words and Header to your Post Cait.

I remember in 1972 when my second baby my daughter was born, heard the song Claire on the radio sung by Gilbert O'Sullivan and loved that too.

R.I.P Gerry Rafferty.

I was lsitening to a tribute to Gerry Rafferty on the radio and just loved how the song 'Stuck in the middle with you' came about because he was stuck in the middle of a load of 'music moguls' at some dinner which he found incredibly boring. Great talent.

Cait, I'm another fan of Gerry Rafferty, and am very sorry he has left us ... at what seems to me to be too, too soon.

Billy Joel is another one whose songs can so well capture a particular time that resonates with many folks.

Music. Books. Nature. Wonderful!

So sad about Gerry Rafferty - definitely left this world way too early. Loved that song. Takes me right back.

Baker Street is an anthem of it's age, instantly recognisable in the first few notes. A piece of work that that will be forever Gerry Rafferty, so a fine legacy of his life.
