Easter Musings

Finland 1968

Easter Musings 2014

I prefer back views, they leave much to the
imagination; we can only dream what
their expressions were on that hopeful day
back in the sixties when you and I were
not yet born, nor even dreamed of in some
fashion.  Our souls did not exist on Earth,
knew nothing of the storms that might one day
befall us on such a seemingly timeless,
future springtime day.  Now, in the noughties ,
very much alive, we can’t ignore the
bleak precipitations but we huddle
beside the grey and uni-coloured folk
beneath the darkened silvery birches
under umbrellas together.  Sometimes
all we can do is unleash balloons in
colours of the rainbow to be a kind
of  sixties prayer, a plea for comradeship and peace
for all the peoples of the world to see.

Your poem reminds me of the blessings a comma brings. A moment to take a breath and just be, just look, just notice.

Fabulous poem. Thank you!

I like the symbolism of the balloons..I once let balloons
fly at a funeral..everyone made a wish and released the balloons heavenward..a peaceful moment..

I sure do like the sound of that 60's prayer. What an incredible piece, Cait. It's so warming to read!

I had some of these feelings when I first looked at the image, but I didn't feel like putting the effort in to going there. I'm glad you did. Well done.

A great sense of timelessness to this--and a mood of reflection, told with simplicity but depth--my favorite image is of the present huddling within the personality of the past--really a striking image, and the ending seems like one of those colored balloons, meant to rise and carry on the wind.

I like the sense of time in this. The tension between the past and the present.
