Mini Monet

Dear Diary,

Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.

Claude Monet

I wish I was artistic, I can't even draw stick men properly.  I appreciate all things arty but have no ability in that direction, I often look at my favourites, the Irish artist Paul Henry's paintings and try to imagine how he has created the clouds for example and think I may have a go one day.  I am often tempted to try abstract paintings in blocks of colour as sometimes I feel the need - perhaps I am in need of the qualities of particular colours in my life at certain times.  I do believe in colour therapy, I always wear red shoes, it's an energy thing!

I love impressionist paintings and I have to thank a fellow blogger, Bouddica for introducing me to the boy they are calling Britian’s Mini Monet.

Kieron Williamson is just seven years old and here are some examples of his work.  When I first saw them all I could say was ‘Wow’.  They are amazing in the true sense of the word because they have been created by a child but they would be outstanding even if an adult had painted them.  Kieron lives in Norfolk which is a part of the UK that has influenced many painters, perhaps it is something to do with the vast skies and the quality of the light there.  But Kieron has surely been born with a precious gift.

If you were a colour, what would you be?

That's all,
Bye for now,
Cait

They really are amazing paintings - its hard to imagine that a child so young can capture light and perspective so well! Wish I could do it.

Keep trying, Cait. Persist and it will come.

I also think that Kieron Williamson's paintings are amazing. Like Mozart in watercolour.

Goodness, I am almost scared of the idea that these are the work of a 7 year old. How can he be a child with the burden of that talent?
Beautiful, but terrifying.

What an incredible gift, at such a young age. I wonder what he'll make of it?
I haven't an iota of artistic talent - would love to be able to create, but long ago resigned myself to creating homes wherever we were posted.
If I were a colour I'd be burgundy.

Same here. There is an invisible block between brain and paintbrush.
Both my brothers got the arty gene. One could draw and one does some lovely water colour paintings.
KW is amazing.

Such lovely paintings! What a talented child.
I do think you should get a little water color set and play around.
Making pictures is such a delight.
You don't have to even be good at it to get a kick out of it.
I see you know my friend Frances who is a trained and talented painter.
I'd love to paint like her.
I can never decide what color I am -- blue or green or peach --
not brown or purple

when painting I like orange and purple because they are nice and strong.
all best wishes from New York

Indigo.

Being contrary, apart from the first one, I don't much like the watercolours by the boy - they look like he has been trained too carefully. Of course it is interesting that he is only seven, but I wonder how he would paint if he were allowed to let go.

I truly think Kieron's paintings are wonderful - I love the soft light of watercolours and Norfolk is an artists and photographers paradise - I think my colours are blue and green - but then I like any bright vibrant colour

Hello Cait,

Kieron Williamson has such an amazing talent, the pictures he has painted are so lovely, the way he has captured the Norfolk sky's and it's scenery around.

The Gallery in Holt, (PictureCraft), are holding an exhibition of Keiron's art work at the moment until September, the Gallery is not far from where I live so hoping to make a visit soon. I read in the local paper today that Keiron's parents will be buying a house for him from some of his sales from his paintings.

I would love to be able to paint, was quite tempted when I saw that the local school here are holding beginner's classes in the evenings.

I do remember when I was a child having my very first tiny paint-box of water colours and I enjoyed art at school too.

If I were a colour I would be the creamyist blue or cranberry pink.!
