LOLA
I met her in a club down in old Soho Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola Coca-Cola] C-O-L-A cola She walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her her name and in a DARK BROWN voice she said Lola L-O-L-A Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'm not the world's most physical guy But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well we drank champagne and danced all night Under electric candlelight She picked me up and sat me on her knee And said little boy won't you come home with me Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola I pushed her away I walked to the door I fell to the floor I got down on my knees Well I looked at her and she at me Well that's the way that I want it to stay And I'll always want it to be that way for my Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'd left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said little boy I'm gonna make you a man Well I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and IN BED I'm a man And so is Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola |
Enjoy!
I am a huge Clapton fan and this song means a lot to me.
LAYLA
What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.
Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.
I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.
Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain.
Both are great songs and I'm right back there with you.
ReplyDeleteTwo very famous "ladies".
ReplyDeleteLove these two songs Cait, two of my favourite artists too. I used to play a lot of music by The Kinks in the sixty's, think I have all of their original vynal somewhere, ah takes me back.!

Cait ... you are terrific! Many thanks for both of these tunes. Each is a gem, and carries many connected memories.
ReplyDeleteNow, you know I am a big Kinks supporter ... remember when you reach W!
M has many possibilities. I am going to bask in the joy of the double L's and leave the M's to others.
Thank you. xo
OMG! I love both of these songs! thanks for posting them and bringing back so many memories.
ReplyDeletei love the kinks. you are reminding me (in an odd way) of when i was 13 and went to my very first concert--Neil Diamond. it was my birthday, and i hoped against hope that somehow he would know and sing to me. instead, he sang "happy birthday" to some other girl in the crowd.
ReplyDeletethe friends i was with wanted to shout out that he now sing to ME but i knew he wouldn't sing happy birthday twice. i said, "if he just sings 'kentucky woman' i'll be happy." (i was born in kentucky.)
next song: "kentucky woman." i thought i'd die from the thrill of it.
I could listen to these two songs all day - bravo choices Cait!!
ReplyDeleteWe went to see Eric Clapton at the O2 Arena a couple of months ago - he was brilliant of course and LAYLA is such a special song.
