No. not my last ever blog posting. Just a piece of music that always touches my heart. I heard it a lot over the weekend because of the D-Day reunions in Normandy.
It's one of those pieces of music that puts one in a particular time and place - exactly. I will always think of Vimy Ridge, having heard it played there on Remembrance Day more than 20 years ago.
Oh... I too find that very moving. My grandmother lived by the cemetary, and I remember hearing that sound come over the wall when there was a military funeral, and we'd all stop and listen. My grandad was an old soldier (veteran of the Somme), and one of the memories my mother shared of his death was that on the night he died, a fellow-veteran stood outside their front-gate on his way home from the pub and sang the last post. I find the image so haunting. Thanks for sharing that.
I confess your title had me worried for a minute. Lovely post--very moving in its simplicity.
ReplyDeleteSuch a haunting piece. It is played here at a military funeral, and is so moving. The video is very nicely done.

ReplyDeleteI can't listen to this without tears welling up....just so so poignant. Music can move us more than almost anything, I sometimes think.
ReplyDeleteOh you are so *naughty,* with that misleading Subject Line. -giggles-
